Dr Helen Kennedy is a SMARTlab Adjunct Faculty member working on Digital Futures, and PhD co-superviser. She recently took up a new senior faculty post at the University of Leeds. She was previously Principal Lecturer in Interactive Media in the School of Social Sciences, Media and Cultural Studies at UEL. With a history of researching new media in/equalities, of debunking some of the myths of cyberspace, and of collaborative new media production, her current research on Inclusive New Media Design focuses on new media design and production practices and informs the research of UEL's Rix Centre for Innovation and Learning Disability. >>link |

Dr. Radan Martinec is a PhD supervisor at the Smartlab. He is also the owner and director of a new media research and consultancy company, IKONA Research and Consulting LLC. He is a trained linguist and semiotician and has lectured and carried out research at universities in Australia, Italy, United Kingdom and the USA. His main research interests are new media design, image-text relations, and the semiotics of embodied action. |

The areas of specialization of Dr. Nikolaos Mavridis include Interactive Conversational Robots and Media, as well as Cognitive Science. He is currently an Asst. Professor founder and director of the Interactive Robots and Media Laboratory at the United Arab Emirates University and . Dr. Nikolaos Mavridis obtained his PhD from the MIT Media Lab, where he created a robot with vision and language, with capabilities comparable to those required by a psychological test given to 3-year old children. Some current projects: the "IbnSina" arabic speaking humanoid, and the Microsoft-awarded "FaceBots"-social robots utilizing FaceBook. |

Her long and prestigious research career spans the academic domain and industry, where she has worked in both animation and visual effects entertainment (for Disney, Rhythm & Hues Studios) as well as with developing virtual environments in government-sponsored research laboratories. |
